Here's another trail from "The Local's Adventure Guide to Mellow Mountain Trails - 27 Fun Day Hikes in Salida and Buena Vista".
The Davis Meadow Trail winds 3.6 miles out and back and takes about 2 hours. It goes through the upper end of the Fourmile Travel Management Area northeast of Buena Vista.
It's a beautiful trail through fir, pine and aspen forest to a serene meadow with old pioneer cabins, remnants of the Swede's Camp. Local lore says that a group of Swedish loggers built the cabin and lived in them while cutting timber for the Midland Railroad which traveled through the Fourmile area near Trout Creek Pass.
It's a pretty easy hike and the elevation was a low of 9,387' to a high of 9,937'. There are some nice views along the dirt road leading to the trailhead and there were some pretty wild flowers in bloom.
